This interview should be required reading for anyone who still believes that the President is in command of his faculties and capable of leading the country in a time of peril. It’s also an excellent interview for any student of the psychological sciences at every level of training and experience. For many years as a psychiatric supervisor I often said, only half in jest, that when a patient appeared with the signs and symptoms like Mr. Trump’s it was time to call the medical students. They were great at digging into data and parsing a complex patient’s many diagnostic possibilities. The surfeit of Mr. Trump’s misrepresentations, grandiosity, illogic, and impulsivity suggest a similar degree of complexity beyond the now low-hanging fruit of “narcissistic and antisocial personality” disorders.
