I think it is not surprising that Holbrooke felt that the war should end. He was a passionate resolver of conflict throughout his career. What is surprising was that he still had his eye on the prize on his deathbed, and secondarily that so many people found it notable.

Perhaps the point is to highlight how many search results you can get which misspell Holbrooke’s name.
I also saw a story this morning claiming that Obama is trying to spin the comment as a joke on Holbrooke’s part.
