  1. It’s interesting to me that you don’t critique the NYT headline, so rich in irony, suggesting that global warming has, in effect, become a faith-based system of belief. Dyson himself has written that environmentalism has replaced biblical religions as a new faith.

  2. I am not sure that the analogy goes too far. Faith can either be a self-referential system with only solipsistic meaning, or it can be about something in the real world. There’s no use arguing about religion, as the saying goes, but there is plenty of use arguing (with consideration of the empirical findings pro and con) about whether anti-environmentalism is destroying life on earth. Although, of course, the scientific method is an article of faith writ large.
