Hi Eliot,
The umbrella man was a straw man. BTW, the House Select Committee Morris refers to contradicted the single-shooter myth when it played back the police motorcycle officer’s recording that came to light sometime after the Warren whitewash. But after concluding that at least 3 shots had been fired they closed the inquiry without bothering to followup on the new evidence.
I thought you might find Joan Mellen’s site to be of interest. Also, there’s a great interview of Joan Mellen by Bonnie Faulkner of KPFA’s Guns & Butter on the digitaljustice blog.
Sincerely,
@joely

Great piece. Allow me however to play devil’s advocate for a moment: Was any proof offered that the man who testified before the committee was in fact the umbrella man?
And to go back the other direction: While watching the film my first thought was to my own rosacea which is exacerbated by direct sunlight, occasionally causing me to use an umbrella in the sun.
And, to flip-flop again: This example is perhaps the least of the many mysteries surrounding the Kennedy assassination so debunking it is relatively insignificant.
