Almost. There have been only 10 recorded cases of the phenomenon, dubbed superfetation. In Grovenburg’s case, she became pregnant first with a girl (whom she has decided to name Jillian) and then two weeks later with a boy (Hudson). The babies have separate due dates — Jillian on Dec. 24, Hudson on Jan. 10. (TIME)

What I don’t get is how such a thing is ascertained and not perceived, instead, as simply twins where one is bigger than the other.

maybe there are other markers, such as things that only develop at a certain developmental age? (if one were looking really early, as after fertility treatments, one might see the heartbeats appear at different stages, say.) no idea of the real answer, but can imagine that enough of the landmarks are well defined enough that they could tell that more than size was at stake…
