“…13 key people in the Bush administration cannot claim they relied on the memos from the DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel. Some of the 13 manipulated the federal bureaucracy and the legal process to “preauthorize” torture in the days after 9/11. Others helped implement torture, and still others helped write the memos that provided the Bush administration with a legal fig leaf after torture had already begun.” (Salon).

Yep! And it’s about time we commend them for saving civilian lives! Ask yourself one honest question, if you are capable of it… Would you waterboard a terrorist if it would have stopped 9/11 from ever happening. And lets be honest, the waterboarding we did to 3 terrorist that was effective is nothing compared what the Japanese did that was outlawed… not even close to the same! If you don’t realize that then stop following your liberal news and go research the truth.

Your certainty about what is the truth and your insulting tone (“…one honest question, if you are capable of it” etc) are demeaning and pitiful. (Not surprising you seem to support torture!) Don’t post if you cannot have a respectful and civil conversation. You’re probably just baiting me and my readers and you’ve succeeded. You’ll probably get your rocks off on the righteous indignation this response inspires in you. Pitiful that that’s the best you can do but it’s not good enough here. . Persistence will only get your posts deleted. And, oh yes, I’ll recognize your tone of incivility even if you try and hide behind a different anonymous log-in. If you aren’t ashamed of your convictions and have the skill to convey them adequately, you shouldn’t be ashamed to sign your comments.

Hmmm, on second thought maybe I won’t delete any further insulting posts. After all, the contempt of the contemptuous is a compliment, and I like to know when I’m doing something right.

I’m glad to see you will exercise the right to free speech. Most left wing blogs don’t appreciate hearing anything other then someone agreeing with their opinion. That is where being truthful and honest with oneself becomes a reality. And alot of times in this political climate there is very little of truth.

While I certainly want all 13 of these people to be prosecuted for their crimes, the fact that all 13 are Republicans (and male) leads me to think that it’s more about Republican-bashing than any genuine concern over torture. The implication here is clearly that the Democrats in Congress did not know what was going on, and that they did not wholeheartedly support and encourage what was happening. But they did. The evidence is overwhelming. Pelosi knew. Reid knew. Hillary knew. Obama knew. Kerry knew. Biden knew. Kennedy knew. They all knew, and they not only all went along with it, they vigorously worked to suppress any efforts to stop it. (Longtime supporter of American imperialism and military industriaal complex, Ted Kennedy most especially, who has been assiduously working to block all efforts to investigate American abuses since Vietnam, which was of course begun by his warmongering brothers, both of whom vigorously supported the widespread and extensive use of torture, assassination and other unsavory practices in Vietnam, Cuba and many other places.)
If we are ever to deal with these problems we must move beyond the partisanship and begin to acknowledge that both parties are equally violent and equally engaged in violating the law, and that the abuses began decades before Bush got into office. And we must stop blaming everything on the President, and face up to the fact that Congress is in charge of things. Always! Without congressional support, Bush and Cheney couldn’t have done a thing. The reason they committed so many crimes and got away with them was that they knew that no matter what they did neither the Republicans or Democrats in Congress would ever investigate or prosecute. The roots of the problem are in Congress.

WOW! I couldn’t agree more. However it was a Republican controlled Congress, and the Dems did exactly what the Republicans are doing now… towing the party line. And that is a big part of the problem in Washington, it’s more about how different we are then alike.
Yes the Dems knew… however waterboarding 3 terrorist that supposedly saved an attack on LA in my opinion was worth it. This was not torture compared to the Japanese form of waterboarding that was outlawed. However we may never know the complete truth of what the enhanced interrogations prevented… we only received a partition releasing of information to skew the average American who doesn’t look beyond the CNN reports of the day for their facts.
