Ira Einhorn Cuts Throat in Bid to Beat Extradition. Long saga appears to be drawing to a close with the extradition decision; Einhorn fled the US in 1981 when just about to go on trial for the 1977 murder of his girlfriend Holly Maddux, whose bludgeoned body was hidden in a trunk for eighteen months before its discovery. He was since convicted in absentia and received a life sentence; he was located living in France in 1997. Einhorn maintains his innocence, saying he was framed for the murder because of his political activism. Maddux’s sister says, “It’s vintage Einhorn. I did not think he would go quietly.
